Summer Boating Season Welcomed With June Log Jam
By P/C Tony Dodson, SN
Log Jam #1 was held Saturday 18 June and it started out as a
beautiful day! After tucking ourselves away on one side of No Name Cove, it was
like Log Jams past with great camaraderie among Squadron members, their families
and friends! We had a total of 37 boats and 106 people; and out of that, there
were 21 LMPS boats and 39 LMPS members with numerous raft-ups all around us! We
even had a flyover by our very own, P/C David Allen, SN, and Carl Swartzmiller,
AP, who joined us later on the water in Meridian Flyer!
A good time was had by all and the crowd displayed its “safety
first” attitude by putting out additional anchors and having fun all at the same
time! We even got in some Vessel Safety Checks! Unfortunately, towards the end
of the day, there was mention of storms brewing and coming in our direction! So,
after checking the weather on radar and numerous cell phones, the decision was
made to break up and head for safe harbors. Everyone made a quick exit and
hopefully, was lucky enough to beat the first of a couple of storms that blew
through that evening.
For those of you who may not have been able to join the first
LMPS Log Jam of the year, please plan to come out for Log Jam #2 planned for
Saturday 20 August. Please watch The Log Jam and website for further
details. . . . HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
