Lake Murray Squadron Members Visit Crystal River
by Lt Anne Smith
Four little boats and 16 people traveled south to Crystal River,
Florida, on 26 March 2008. The fun, frolicking, and food began with a picnic at
the Florida Welcome Center rest area. These South Carolinians were ready to hit
the water but enjoyed the road trip, too.
Boats were launched at Crystal River Watersports Marina
mid-afternoon, and everyone headed out on the water, enjoying the sun and
watching for manatees. Of course, some of the men managed to find a loose screw
and played like they were working on a trailer!
Over several days, the group anchored the boats, and most jumped
into the water to commune with the manatees. The water was great, and it was a
special treat to be in the water in March.
Eating, as always, was a favorite past-time activity, and
Crackers on the Crystal River quickly became a favorite feed station and
watering hole. The whole group and a few adopted group members enjoyed the
nightlife, eating, music, dancing, and margaritas at Margarita Grill in
Homosassa.
The trip lasted from Wednesday to Sunday. Everyone had a great
time and did not spend all of their March paycheck!
