First Annual LMPS Chili Cook Off
Successfully Kicks Off 2009
by P/C Mike Kirk, AP
Since the Squadron has lost our longtime meeting place in
Tronco's at the fairgrounds your Bridge has been busy coming up with good
alternates for our monthly meetings. I hope everyone can appreciate the problems
involved
with providing a quality place for as many members as we usually have at our
functions.
Commander Jeff & crew have decided to try several different
things for us to have fun meetings while keeping a lid on the cost. They came up
with a real winner in the first, and to be annual, Chili Cook Off. Seventy-two members
attended the cook off in the facilities of the Lake Murray Boat & Sport Club on
Indian Trail Circle in Chapin. This lovely setting on the lake has a
great clubhouse where Mack & Vicki McGahee built a raging fire in the fireplace
and everyone was inside and toasty warm. We should all remember to thank P/C
Elmer Williamson, JN for hosting our event at the clubhouse.
There were 11 chefs and assistants who all worked very hard to
provide a variety of great tasting chili, cornbreads & desserts. They were:
Cyndi & Jeff Langlois, Lee & Janice Ayers, Andy & Marilyn Hyman, Danny & Karen
Hood, Elaine & David Price, Christy & Michael Seguin, Danny & Kathy Glenn, Angie
Tronco & Mike Kirk, Jim & Betty Rakes, Tommy & Darlene Clawson, Joe & Laura
Fadley.
Many thanks to all who cooked or helped in any way! Angie was
able to complete her white chicken chili even though her helper dumped her broth
down the drain so he could wash the pot. Hey, it was left in the sink!
The eaters all went around the serving line having a sample of
each different chili. Then there was voting on three categories
— awarded Best Chili Name was " Poot Scootin'
Chili " by Cyndi & Jeff, awarded Best Overall Taste was Lee & Janice, and
awarded Best Dressed Team was Andy & Marilyn.
Cruise and education course sign-up sheets were available and
