Lake Murray Members Recognized

At Lake Murray's monthly meeting on 17 April, various members were recognized for recent National and District awards, which they have recieved.

Cdr Elaine Price presents USPS Distinction in Journalism awards to Janice Ayers (left) and Barbara Pearson (right).Cdr Elaine Price presented Lake Murray's newsletter editor Janice Ayers and the Distinction in Journalism Award for 2007 “in recognition of distinctive performance in the practice of USPS Journalism.” Also receiving this award was Lake Murray member Barbara Pearson, former editor of the D/26 newsletter, 026° True.Cdr Elaine Price presents the USPS 2007 Website Award for Excellence to Lake Murray webmaster Debra Allen (left).

Our Squadron website received the 2007 Website Award for Excellence “for outstanding website design, information, ease of use, content and the dissemination of the spirit of the United States Power Squadrons.” Congratulations to our webmaster, P/C Debra Allen, P, for this achievement.

Cdr Elaine Price presents Lt/C Andy Hyman with the D/26 Spark Plug Award.Lt/C Andy Hyman, AP, was awarded the D/26 Spark Plug Award. Nominees are new members of less than two years who have contributed the most in time and effort to USPS. Andy also received a “Power of 10” pin for recruiting 10 new Lake Murray members.

Our Squadron also was awarded the USPS Educational Fund Certificate of Merit “in appreciation of the extraordinary contribution for the furtherance of education in the fields of navigation and small boat handling.” We have been on this honor roll of 100% participation for 26 years.

P/D/C Ed Fetner congratulates P/C Mike Kirk on receipt of the D/26 award, which Ed created more than 30 years ago.Our 2007 “Get Up Now” commander, P/C Mike Kirk, AP, was awarded the Ed Fetner Award. This award was donated to the district by P/D/C Edward H. Fetner, Jr., N, (one of Lake Murray’s own past commanders) because there always seems to be at least one more squadron commander who displays the same qualifications as the Commander of the Year. Congratulations, Mike, on this outstanding achievement! Cdr Elaine Price presents the D/26 Boating Activities Award to P/C Tony Dodson, Lake Murray's 2007 Boating Activities Chairman.

Congratulations, P/C Tony Dodson, AP, our 2007 Boating Activities Chair! And a huge thank you to all the cruise coordinators and everyone who participated in the more than 20 boating activities last year. We couldn’t have done it without YOU! 2007 was indeed an outstanding year.
