Chili/Soup/Stew Fest Heats Up a Rainy Day on the Lake
Sixty Lake Murray Power Squadron members and their guests gathered Saturday 26
March for the squadron's annual cook off at Flotilla Island. It was a cool,
rain-soaked day that fit perfectly with Commander Lee Ayers' spicy "As Good As
Brew Brunswick Stew." But it was Stan and Edie Godfrey's "Hillbilly Chili" that
took home the Best Taste award. Tommy and Darlene Clawson won as the Best
Dressed chefs, and also took home the Best Name award with their "Blazing Saddles Bean
Soup."Other members who tantalized our taste buds with their chili/soup/stew
recipes were Jim and Betty Rakes who cooked up "Rafferty's Potato Soup," Danny
and Kathy Glenn who sizzled with "Hot Flashes" chili, David and Elaine Price who
served up "Notalotahota Chili," and J and Retta Strohecker who wowed us with
"J's Wild Cat Stew."
Despite the rainy overcast day, it proved to be a great outing at Flotilla and on the lake for the eight boats and 16
folks who came by water to join the rest of the crowd. Click on the
